FOR BUSINESS
Plan a team chat migration from Slack or Teams
Short answer: Plan a team chat migration from Slack or Teams. Put the current file, the decision and the next owner in one channel. Basic is 9 USD per paid account a month, or 86 USD a year, with 25 GiB. The trial is 3 days. The iPhone and iPad app is coming soon. The encryption scope is on the security page.
Plan a staged move from Slack or Teams to BusyVault. Inventory data, keep source exports, test permissions and define rollback criteria.
Choose a migration method before setting a date.
Moving a team's work takes more than creating accounts. First choose your goal. You can start new projects in BusyVault and keep a source archive. Or you can plan to transfer selected information after checking how it maps to the new tool. This guide describes a staged review. It does not promise an automatic Slack or Teams importer or a lossless transfer of history.
Treat messages, threads, files, links, identities, timestamps and permissions as separate validation items. An export file or a successful upload does not establish that all of them have transferred correctly. Confirm supported formats and limits with BusyVault before planning a bulk operation.
Five gates for a controlled transition.
Inventory and approve the scope
List workspaces, channels, owners, participants, files, integrations and retention obligations. Classify which data must remain searchable, which needs an archive and which can be removed under your policy. Assign a business owner and an IT owner.
Preserve the source record
Check export permissions and available formats in your Slack or Teams plan. Preserve approved exports and source files in a controlled archive. Record counts, date ranges and access owners. Keep the original service available for your agreed overlap period.
Map the destination and test one project
Create a representative BusyVault workspace and channel structure. Assign roles deliberately rather than copying names alone. Test new conversations, a typical source file, recipient access, search and project handover. Resolve identity and access requirements before inviting a wider group.
Validate content and permissions
Compare the intended inventory with the data and files actually available to pilot users. Test successful access and denied access, including a removed participant. Record exceptions, missing context and any manual work. Obtain sign-off from the data owner before proceeding.
Schedule cutover and keep a rollback path
Agree who writes in each tool during the overlap. Publish the new channel map, support contact and escalation owner. Pause expansion if required data, permissions or business tasks fail validation. Remove the old service only after archive access, retention and acceptance criteria have been approved.
Budget the transition as well as the subscription.
Include export preparation, permission mapping, training, overlapping subscriptions and ongoing administration. Estimate time from a representative pilot rather than assuming a fixed saving for every employee. Keep the source quote and the BusyVault paid-account count visible in the business case.
One project, then the rest
Apply “Plan a team chat migration from Slack or Teams” to one workspace you already have. Create the channel, invite the people on that job, and upload one file you would review this week. Leave the rest of the company where it is until a person who missed the day can find the file and the next owner. That pilot is the proof. A diagram of every team is not.
Files, history and the next owner
On Plan a team chat migration from Slack or Teams, keep the file next to the sentence that approved it. Slack documents a 1 GB cap on one upload and, on the Free plan, 90 days of visible history. Those two limits are the public facts this site already cites.
BusyVault bills storage per paid account: 25 GiB on Basic and 100 GiB on Pro. Extra storage is 0.03 USD per GiB a month after you confirm the charge. Basic is 9 USD a month or 86 USD a year. Pro is 30 USD a month or 288 USD a year. One subscription does not cover the team.
The trial is 3 days and 10 GiB. Use it to upload a real file and to search for a decision, not to announce a company-wide move. If the file does not fit or the old decision cannot be found, say so in the channel before you promise the room is the archive.
Where the app runs
BusyVault runs in the browser and can be installed from Chrome or Edge on Windows, macOS and Linux. The Android app is on Google Play and uses the same account. The iPhone and iPad app is coming soon. Enterprise customers can run BusyVault on their own servers under a separate contract. There is no public installer on this site for that path. This page does not claim SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA.
A check you can finish this week
For Plan a team chat migration from Slack or Teams, finish four lines and stop. Line one is the project name. Line two is the channel name. Line three is where the current file lives. Line four is the next owner. Add one rule for meetings: what must be decided live, and what must be written down the same day.
Ask someone who was not on the call to find the file without help. If they open the right channel first, the structure works. If they search three threads and still ask which version is current, move the file to the channel and leave a pointer. Owners and administrators can export a BusyVault backup from workspace or channel settings. After a restore, check the text, the file references and who can open them. Keep the original files until that check passes. Product questions go to the address on the support page.
Overlap the tools until one job is boring
A migration date without an export is a wish. Keep Slack or Teams available, export what you must search later, and run one project in BusyVault until a second person can find the file and the next step without you. There is no automatic Slack import. Cut over only after that handover is dull. The 3-day trial is the pilot window, not the archive.
